The Treasures of Darkness by Carol Lee Andreson

Born in Australia and raised in Spokane, WA U.S.A. Carol Lee Anderson and her husband served in the Bible translation ministry with Wycliff Bible Translators located in Papau New Guinea. Carol currently teaches at the Moody Bible Institute at the Spokane campus.

The Treasures of Darkness is a wonderful and delightful fiction novel filled with adventure, mystery and action yet contains powerful biblical truths. Based upon Psalm 107, this novel was written keeping the family in mind. By avoiding graphic violence and magic, the author instead presents “family friendly” conflict and includes miraculous intervention. Psalm 107 comes to life in this adventure story set in the ancient and mythical land of Bellacosa.

With characters that will move the imagination, Carol has masterfully woven the pages of The Treasures of Darkness together to captivate the soul.

Follow young Julen taken from her home as only an innocent child, only to be brought and sold into slavery with no hope of redemption, until she meets the mysterious One who is her deliverer, who has the power to break her bonds apart and set her high upon the rock and hidden from her enemies.

Cryptic messages, a mysterious diary, the mythical stranger, the powerful dragon god and the plot to overthrow the kingdom of Bellacosa are only but a few glimpses into this wonderful novel filled with mystery and imagination.

Be prepared to be fully engaged in this page-turner that will keep you coming back for more. A truly captivating story and novel about the power of redemption and triumphant rescue.

Like all of us we are treasures hidden in the darkness waiting for the One who can truly rescue us. Come, be filled with hope, encouragement and faith as this novel unfolds.

Santa's Birthday Gift For Children Ages 3-10

Santa’s Birthday Gift is an attempt to include Santa in the meaning of Christmas. (After I read a story of the nativity to my young granddaughter, she looked at me and asked “But where’s Santa?”) The editor who critiqued this book wrote: “What a cute story! I know there are many stories about how Santa came into the picture, but this is a delightful idea behind the gifts at Christmas.” The story is best for ages 3-10, to be read to children who still believe in Santa! This book received a 2011 National Indie Excellence Finalist Award, and is a 2011 Readers Favorite Finalist. ~ Sherrill Cannon

Who's On Board Your Ship

“Who’s on Board?” by Dr. Joseph Hyskell Jr. is an inspiring and scripturally based bible study. The author discusses twelve checkpoints that help the reader to understand what it is to be a “born-again” believer. Filled with scripture application, Author Dr. Joseph Hysekll Jr., has carefully laid down a solid foundation built upon the Holy Scriptures. The twelve checkpoints then can be discussed in a small group setting or read individually. The author indicates that many profess to be a Christian, but their life does not demonstrate a life lead by the “indwelling” of the Holy Spirit. This book will identify the “born-again” believer and demonstrates the difference between knowing about God, and really knowing Christ in the power of His resurrection.

An exciting and short read, this book is an excellent ministering tool that can be used to bring others into the Kingdom of God. This study, as suggested by the author, is recommended for groups not bigger than ten to keep the teachings on a very personal level. Written with much wisdom from scripture and from a man that has over 52 years in ministry as a Pastor, teacher and missionary, Dr. Joseph Hyskell Jr.s’ teaching has captured the essence of what it means to be “born-again.”

Section II of the book includes uplifting and inspirational poetry by the author written all to glorify the love and power of God. This encouraging selection of poetry will be sure to touch your heart, just as the Psalms identify with the condition of one’s heart and emotions. A true writer at heart, Dr. Joseph Hyskell Jr. captures the wisdom and love of the scripture through sharing his brilliantly poignant poetry. This section is a testament to the love and truth of the scriptures and is a true gem, one that shall be treasured by readers inspired by poetry.

The ideals set forth by Author Joseph Hyskell Jr. have been tested and tried by the author and proven to be overwhelmingly victorious. Become a true believer and inspire others to have their lives changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This book, with much prayer as the author notes, will help you do just that.

Author Chris M. Tatevosian “Life Interrupted, It’s Not All About Me”

Author Chris M. Tatevosian in his book, “Life Interrupted, It’s Not All About Me” chronicles his bout with Multiple Sclerosis “MS”. Giving an inside look into his diagnosis and progression of the disease, Chris thought he was unstoppable as a young college student. Chris, early in his freshman year of college, started coming down with strange symptoms that the doctor’s could not diagnose. Shortly after a visit to another doctor that summer break, while at home, the author re-tells the story of how he realized that he did actually have MS when his father broke him out of his denial by telling him, “You have MS.” At such a tender age, only a freshman in college, Chris had realized that his life had forever changed.

Until then Chris had high hopes for his life and this story is an example of how one man’s life has been interrupted and dramatically changed by the disease known as MS. The author in his book illustrates that dealing with a chronic illness can not only disrupt one’s life, but also can become a chronic issue in a marriage. The author takes a hard look at what attitudes and actions can affect one with a chronic illness, while shedding light on what it can do to a marriage.

The author candidly describes situations, circumstances, and actions that arose within his own marriage, that caused misery to his spouse and eventually ended in the divorce of a marriage that everyone thought would never end. The author humbly admits that many actions were of his own doing. The author whole-heartedly writes about his own “poor me attitude” and openly shares his thoughts, emotions and reactions in his own life due to MS. I find this book to be so earnestly honest and refreshing, in that, the author does not hold back in an attempt to save face. This work from the author does a superb job of capturing the confusion, loss, anger, and frustration that a person can go through while fighting a chronic illness. Thank you Chris for sharing your struggles with us.

The author’s purpose in writing this book is to help others dealing with chronic illness and how their attitude towards their spouse can be destroying their marriage or relationships. This book gives the reader a pro-active approach and helps them identify their own behavior as positive or negative. This book will encourage anyone, chronic illness or not, to consider their own relationships and shares how to deal with poor attitudes and actions pro-actively before it grows like a cancer and destroys a marriage or relationship.

Several vitally important key techniques characterize the book; one being that open communication is a must between spouses and especially to a couple dealing with a chronic illness. The author illustrates that recognizing the other’s need just as much as the disabled person can be a marriage saver. The author so humbly admits that, “It’s Not All About Me.” This book will encourage you to open up to your spouse and give you the knowledge of how to go about communication in your marriage when dealing with chronic illness.

The author continues to make a profound statement in that, “Awareness of, and providing attention to, your relationship-destroying actions are the keys to saving your relationship.” (P.79) Whatever your situation may be, we can all learn from our own mistakes and the mistakes of others. If we were to think about the above quote and put it into motion into our own lives, just think of how many relationships could be saved. This book will impact your life on a highly positive level.

This well written book offers encouragement to any who are dealing with a chronic illness or who might have a loved one affected by any disease. Life is not easy, especially when dealing with the roller coaster ride of a day-to-day illness. You will find out that you are not alone and there is hope beyond a chronic illness.

Life Interrupted, It’s Not All About Me is a recommended must read for anyone with a chronic illness. Kudos to you Chris for writing this heart rendering and honest memoir! As one with a chronic illness myself, you caused me to look at my own reactions to my loved ones. This book will open your eyes to see any damaging behavior in your own life and give you the courage to do something about it. I find this book profound in that it is a gentle nudge (or rather gentle slap in the face) to others to look at their own actions in their lives and remember, “It’s Not All About Me.”

One Smooth Stone - A New Book Release by Author Marcia Lee Laycock

When 21-year-old Alex sees an outboard beach just below his isolated Yukon cabin, he’s apprehensive. But little does he know how the appearance of lawyer George Bronsky from Seattle will change his life. Against better judgment he leaves with George and is soon facing not only his old demons but discovering new ones. He’s quickly on the lam again.

And so in One Smooth Stone, a debut novel by Canadian author Marcia Lee Laycock, we have the tale of a young man fleeing from his past only to encounter Someone who keeps dogging his steps at every turn.

Laycock’s plot is twisty and fast-paced with trouble heaped upon trouble. Major characters Alex and Kenni are complex and sympathetic, minors Bill and Ruby brilliant in their blackness. Laycock’s own experience of living in the north shows through in her plausible portrayal of Yukon life with its coterie of colorful people. The isolation sets off the rugged players and fits this somber story well.

For a somber tale it is, dealing with abuse (physical and sexual), abortion, family – and lack of it – anger, revenge and, finally, forgiveness and a new beginning. The book is boldly Christian in its answers and the reader is left with an aftertaste of hope.

~ One Smooth Stone would make a perfect Christmas stocking stuffer and a lively winter companion. Reviewed by: Violet Nesdoly blog: http://vnesdoly.blogspot.com/

~ Joanna Mallory wrote – “I have to say, One Smooth Stone is one of the best novels I've read this year. Settings rich in detail, and a heart rich in compassion for hurting characters.”

Don’t Forget Daddy by Theresa Franklin is a delightful book to read to any young child experiencing change in the family dynamics whether it is through divorce, remarriage or the death of a parent, especially in respect to loss of a father.

Author Theresa Franklin, writes with heartfelt compassion by addressing these delicate subjects in a creative way that will help identify any feelings that a child may be holding on to in their emotions. By opening up the lines of communication, this book will allow a child going through similar circumstances to be able to share their feelings. This book offers wonderful solutions to any young child on how to cope with the change in the family.

The short story opens with Ashley, a young child, sitting and conversing with a man who has become mommy’s friend. She likes him, but does not know how to feel about him because she doesn’t want to forget her daddy. With colorful illustrations and an easy to read dialogue your child will be able to understand this book as Ashley accepts her new daddy, and her new life with wonderful excitement. We find out through the book that change is okay and can be a good thing for all the parties involved.

With the divorce rate being close to 50 percent these days, many young children have to adapt to the loss of a parent and/or a new stepparent. Change is not easy, especially when you don’t understand why it is happening. To a child this can be devastating and as parents it is imperative that these issues are addressed along with any feelings a child might have towards the change in the family dynamics. This book will help you do just that in a loving and compassionate way.

Don’t forget Daddy is also a recommended book for parents or physiologists that want to open the dialogue between parent and child. This book can be used as a tool for parents or professionals to address a child’s feelings whatever they may be towards the change in the family dynamics. It would be a perfect book for the mother who is remarrying with young children. I read it to my 6 year old daughter and all she could say was, “Again, again!” She loved it and I look forward to more books from this talented author that address issues with children and their feelings!
